Afadzato south: The Afadzato South District Assembly held its Second Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Assembly, emphasizing the need for stronger oversight to facilitate rapid development.
According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting was themed 'Resetting Afadzato: The Role of the Assembly Member' and gathered Assembly Members, Heads of Department, and other stakeholders to discuss the district's development agenda. The assembly reviewed ongoing projects and devised strategies for socio-economic growth.
District Chief Executive Mr Manfred Tawiah expressed satisfaction with the completion of several projects across electoral areas, noting that some were ready for commissioning while others were nearing completion. He emphasized the commitment of the Mahama-led NDC administration to deliver tangible development. Mr Tawiah contrasted this with the previous administration, noting that between 2012 and 2024, only 18 projects were commissioned under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. In contrast, under President John Dramani Mahama, the Assembly is on track to commission about 50 projects within two years. He praised the collaborative efforts of Assembly Members, management, and contractors, urging them to maintain the momentum to ensure projects benefit residents promptly.
Presiding Member Mr Benjamin Kweku Tefe, in his welcome address, urged Assembly Members to take their oversight responsibilities seriously. He called for active monitoring of projects and programmes in their electoral areas, stressing the importance of reporting back to the Assembly to ensure value for money, timely completion, and quality delivery. Mr Tefe highlighted the significance of effective oversight in ensuring development reaches the people.
The Presiding Member also pointed out the district's substantial tourism potential, encouraging the Assembly's management to take steps to develop tourist sites to create jobs for the youth and boost the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) of the Assembly. Additionally, he proposed establishing a District Poultry Farm to leverage the government's 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' programme, which would create employment and provide a new revenue stream for the Assembly.
The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on development priorities and strategies to reset and accelerate development in Afadzato South.
