Accra: Broadcast journalist Paul Adom-Otchere has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a trip by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and his wife to the United States, where she gave birth. Speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show on June 4, 2026, Adom-Otchere questioned how the minister and his wife, who is a nurse, were able to finance the trip.
According to Ghana Web, members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be concerned about the potential political implications of the trip, calling for investigations into the matter. Adom-Otchere pointed out that such actions might negatively affect political careers, urging the NDC to question the minister's actions.
Adom-Otchere, who previously served as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), also referred to comments by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa about the use of state resources by public officials. He highlighted discrepancies in the use of resources, noting the irony in Ablakwa's stance when compared to recent government actions.
He alleged that the trip's cost ranged from $40,000 to $50,000 and questioned its funding. Adom-Otchere argued that the minister's salary could not reasonably support such an expenditure, suggesting an investigation into the minister's finances.
The journalist further questioned the propriety of using public resources for personal benefit, albeit without supporting evidence. He expressed concerns about the public perception of the minister's actions and their impact on the government's image, emphasizing the need for accountability from government officials.
Adom-Otchere accused the minister of acting without regard for the potential damage to the reputations of influential figures within the government, such as John Dramani Mahama and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. He concluded by criticizing the minister's use of taxpayer money for personal gain, framing it as a misuse of his position for personal benefit.
