Ada west: The Ada West District Assembly has proposed the establishment of a specialist children's hospital to serve communities in the eastern parts of the Greater Accra and Volta regions. Mr. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, announced the proposal during a sessional address at a meeting of the Assembly.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mills-Nkrumah revealed that the proposed facility would be developed under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement to enhance access to specialised healthcare services for children in these areas. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the Assembly's broader strategy to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen health infrastructure across the district.
He pointed out that development should not only be measured by roads or structures but also by the quality of healthcare available to the people. He reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to expanding healthcare services to communities, ensuring residents have access to quality healthcare closer to their homes.
Mr. Mills-Nkrumah stated that the proposed specialist children's hospital would complement existing healthcare facilities and provide specialized medical services for children within its catchment areas upon completion. Additionally, he noted that progress was being made on the Luhour and Koni Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.
Efforts are also underway to upgrade the Anyamam CHPS compound into a polyclinic, with plans advancing for a new CHPS compound at Badzorhe. In the education sector, the DCE mentioned that kindergarten classroom blocks are under construction at Goi and Kposem, and the Bonikope Junior High School project has reached the roofing stage.
The Assembly is utilizing its internally generated funds to construct separate 10-seater toilet facilities for boys and girls at Ada Senior High Technical School (ASHTS) and a 10-seater Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP) facility at RC Primary School, Korloudor. Moreover, with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), a 24-classroom block is under construction at ASHTS, along with a six-unit classroom block at Koni and walling works at ASHTS.
