Ada: The Ada East District Health Directorate has initiated the registration process for residents to benefit from the government's Free Primary Healthcare initiative. The scheme aims to enhance healthcare access and alleviate financial strain on households.
According to Ghana News Agency, the registration, which commenced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, is scheduled to run until September 27, 2026. This period precedes the official launch of the initiative in the district. Mr. Raphael Kwabena Ngmlotey, the District Nutritionist, shared that health workers would conduct a door-to-door exercise to gather essential household information.
Mr. Ngmlotey specified that the data collection would cover household demographics, water sources, and the presence and location of toilet facilities. The information gathered will enable health officials to pinpoint potential health hazards and implement suitable preventive strategies within the communities.
Following the registration, health workers plan to visit homes to deliver primary healthcare services under the initiative. The program will focus significantly on the early detection and management of non-communicable diseases to prevent them from escalating into severe conditions.
He emphasized that early intervention is vital for reducing health complications and alleviating pressure on the healthcare infrastructure. Residents are urged to have their Ghana Cards and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards ready to streamline the registration process.
Mr. Ngmlotey highlighted the importance of early detection through regular screenings, as many chronic diseases might not present noticeable symptoms initially. Ada East is among the districts chosen by the Ministry of Health to implement this initiative, with more than 50,000 residents aged 18 and above needing registration before the official rollout.
Residents are encouraged to engage actively in the registration and subsequent healthcare services to ensure the initiative meets its goals. Community involvement is deemed crucial for the program's success and resident welfare.
