Queensland: American actor Kjell Nilsson, celebrated for his performance in Mad Max 2, has died at the age of 76. He passed away on Thursday, July 2, in Queensland, Australia, after a prolonged struggle with end-stage kidney disease.
According to Ghana Web, the news of Nilsson’s passing was announced by his family on his Facebook page. They shared insights into his final days, revealing that he had been wrestling with end-stage kidney disease for four and a half years. Throughout this period, Nilsson underwent dialysis three times a week, a treatment regimen that ultimately led to the loss of his bodily autonomy.
In a poignant decision, Nilsson chose to cease dialysis on a Sunday, just days before his passing, in a bid to reclaim control over his pain. He died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his sons.
The family recounted that in 2022, medical professionals had predicted Nilsson would not survive to see his first Christmas after his kidney failure diagnosis. Defying these predictions, he lived to celebrate four more Christmases. His condition was complicated by severe blood clotting in his legs, which precluded the possibility of a kidney transplant due to its impact on major arteries.
Nilsson’s family also disclosed that he underwent five significant surgeries to address the clotting issue and was faced with the difficult choice of a double amputation or enduring pain. Demonstrating resolve, Nilsson opted to keep his legs and embarked on intense training to enhance circulation, achieving results that many deemed unattainable.
