Accra: The girlfriend of Abu Trica, a Ghanaian national facing possible extradition to the United States over allegations of involvement in a romance scam, has made an emotional appeal to the government and the public, urging for leniency and understanding.
According to Ghana Web, during a protest seeking Abu's freedom, his girlfriend expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians for the support they have shown since the case gained public attention. She conveyed her hope that her message would reach the president and relevant authorities, seeking forgiveness for any wrongdoing Abu may have committed.
She emphasized that any alleged misconduct should not determine Abu's future, appealing for forgiveness on his behalf. The situation has taken a significant emotional and psychological toll on her and her family, she shared, particularly over the past few months.
The extradition process has been overwhelming, she revealed, especially as she has a young child to care for. The uncertainty surrounding the case has left them feeling powerless and desperate for mercy from the public.
Amidst increasing public interest in the case, the Gbese District Court has approved the extradition of Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, to the United States. He faces charges related to a large-scale online romance scam, reportedly involving over $8 million.
Despite the court's decision, Abu Trica and his legal team have been given a 15-day window to challenge the ruling. During this period, they may file a habeas corpus application, temporarily halting the extradition process.
The court also dismissed allegations suggesting political motivation and entrapment in the case, maintaining the legal proceedings' integrity.
