Ghana: Ghanaian middle-distance runner, Abigail Abugire has etched her name into the history books after setting a new national record in the women's 1500 metres. The former Aduman Senior High School runner clocked an impressive time of 4:13.03 at the Bryan Clay Invitational over the weekend, breaking the previous record of 4:17.75 set by Agnes Abu in 2017.
According to Ghana Web, Abugire, who now competes for West Texas A and M University, delivered a remarkable performance that underscores her rapid rise on the international stage. Just a day before her record-breaking feat, the young athlete dominated the women's 800 metres, running from start to finish to secure victory in a time of 2:01.79.
The performance ranks as the second-fastest ever recorded in NCAA Division II history.
