Accra: As part of the activities marking International Women's Day, AbibiNsroma Foundation joined learners and facilitators in Tema to celebrate their contributions in all social circles. Nana Ogyedom Ama Tsetsewa I, Mankrado of Gomoa Oguan and a licensed Alternative Dispute Resolution practitioner, was the special guest at St. Stephen Anglican School Complex and Community 7/2 Primary and Junior High Schools. Nana acknowledged the cultural display performances by the learners and facilitators of the schools.
According to Ghana News Agency, the schools showcased regional cuisines, dance, dressing, and celebration of their festivals along with historical presentations. Nana emphasized the significance of appreciating the cultural diversity in Ghana, especially during the celebration of Tema Goes Traditional in line with Ghana Month. She highlighted that the Ghanaian identity is strong and that it should be upheld and demonstrated everywhere. Nana further noted that cultural values strengthen society and guide inclusive development.
Mr. Robert TK Amiteye, the Coordinator of AbibiNsroma Foundation, stated that the contributions of women and girls are vital at the family, community, and national levels. He highlighted the roles women and girls play in supporting families and stressed the importance of providing equitable opportunities and justice for all. Mr. Amiteye urged society to empower women and girls, which he believes leads to family, community, and national development.
Mr. Amiteye also quoted Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey, emphasizing the importance of educating women for the betterment of the nation. He called for reforms in the criminal justice system and policies to address deep inequalities. Additionally, he appealed for universal social protection, public investment in care systems, and full recognition of unpaid care work as key to the economy.
The Foundation urged the government to ensure protection and support for survivors of sexual violence and to address the needs of marginalized groups, including informal workers, caregivers, and women with disabilities. They stressed the importance of public investment in social protection and care, shielding these budgets from cuts due to austerity and debt.
