Accra Mayor Issues Final Deadline to Mechanics for Road Clearance

Accra:Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey has set a final deadline for mechanics at Dadeban Loop in the North Industrial Area to clear vehicles from the road by Monday, November 2, 2026. The ultimatum comes as construction projects are slated to commence in the area.

According to Ghana Web, the decision follows Mayor Allotey's working visit to Dadeban Loop on October 26. During this visit, he engaged with six leaders of the mechanic workshop to discuss the ongoing occupation of the road, which is designated for construction. The Mayor highlighted that vehicles along the road could hinder contractors and delay the project, emphasizing the necessity of clearing the road before construction begins.

The construction is part of the government's infrastructure development initiative under President John Dramani Mahama's Reset Ghana Agenda. This program aims to enhance road networks, facilitate transportation, and bolster economic activities. The Mayor revealed that the Assembly had already provided financial assistance to the affected mechanics to aid in relocating their vehicles and minimize business disruptions.

Mayor Allotey underscored that the November 2 deadline is non-negotiable, cautioning mechanics against using the financial support as an excuse for further delays. In addition to Dadeban Loop, the directive also applies to mechanics on First Close and Ninth Street, near Eden Garden Hotel. The Mayor warned that non-compliance would result in vehicles being towed by the Assembly.

While acknowledging the economic contributions of mechanics and artisans in the industrial area, the Mayor reiterated that their operations should not obstruct public roads or impede the movement of motorists and pedestrians. He encouraged business operators to cooperate with the Assembly for the mutual benefit of improved road infrastructure, which would assist businesses, residents, and other road users.

The leaders of the workshop confirmed receiving financial support and stated that plans are in motion to vacate the road before construction begins. The Dadeban Loop road project aims to enhance vehicular movement, provide better access to businesses and industrial facilities, and resolve existing road infrastructure issues in the North Industrial Area.
