Bronx:New York American rapper Cardi B has expressed her concerns about safety in the Bronx after the tragic killing of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Frimpong. The incident has prompted the artist to declare that she would never raise a child in the Bronx or certain areas of New York.
According to Ghana Web, Frimpong was shot on his way to school in the Bronx last Thursday, a case that has garnered significant attention from Ghanaians both locally and internationally. Cardi B, who grew up in the Bronx, stated that due to the harsh realities of living in certain neighborhoods, she would avoid raising children there or sending them to public schools in the city.
Cardi B questioned the actions and mindset of the teenagers involved in the shooting, asking how they could contemplate such violence against someone who had not wronged them. She advised New Yorkers planning to start families to move out of the city, citing the aggression among young people there.
Frimpong had relocated from Ghana to the United States a year before his death to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, a 60-year-old taxi driver. The shooting took place just before 930 a.m. near East 171st Street in the Claremont area of the Bronx, leading to Frimpong's death at the hospital. He was a student at DreamYard Preparatory School.
Frimpong's father revealed to CBS News New York that the school principal had previously informed him about a fight involving his son, and that his son had reported being bullied at school. Police are currently searching for three teenage boys aged 16 to 18, last seen wearing all-black clothing and blue surgical masks. No arrests have been made, and the reasons behind the shooting remain unclear.
