TUTAG Suspends Industrial Strike as Negotiations Continue

Accra:The National Congress of Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has resolved to cautiously suspend its ongoing industrial strike action with immediate effect. This decision follows thorough deliberations by the highest decision-making body of the Association.

According to Ghana News Agency, the suspension comes after constructive engagements between TUTAG, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on the orders of the Ministry of Education, and the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities, Ghana (VCTU-G). These discussions were held on Wednesday, leading to the current resolution.

Professor Deodat E. Adenutsi, the National President of TUTAG, clarified during a press engagement on Friday that the strike is suspended, not terminated or called off. He emphasized that the decision reflects TUTAG's trust and respect for VCTU-G and aims to restore uninterrupted academic activities across the ten technical universities.

The decision to suspend the strike was made in good faith, with the expectation that commitments made during negotiations will be translated into concrete actions. Key agreements include resolving outstanding remuneration for post-retirement contract staff by November 14th, facilitated by GTEC, and implementing the amended scheme of service. Additionally, the classification of University Librarians as Academic Staff is to be addressed through the submission of a technical paper.

TUTAG has assured students, parents, and the public that academic life will resume on Monday, November 2, 2026. The association urges technical university management to ensure no student faces disadvantages due to the strike, especially newly admitted students.

Prof Adenutsi reiterated the suspension's cautious nature and the continuation of TUTAG's vigilance and commitment to resolving their grievances. He called for unity and discipline among members, highlighting dialogue and mutual respect as pathways to industrial harmony.
