NPP Sets GHS5,000 Fee for Parliamentary Aspirants Ahead of 2028 Elections

Accra:The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a GHS5,000 fee for prospective parliamentary candidates, including current Members of Parliament (MPs), intending to participate in the party's primaries for the 2028 general elections. The announcement was made by Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP, during a press conference in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the party will open its online portal from November 1 to 10, 2026, for potential aspirants to declare their interest and pay the required fee. This declaration of intent will serve as the initial step in the process leading up to the primaries.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong explained that this process is an administrative step before the formal opening of nominations. Prospective candidates are required to register through the party's online portal, PPC.nppghana.org, and pay the fee. The party will then verify candidates against its constitutional requirements and the laws of Ghana to determine their eligibility for parliamentary candidacy.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong emphasized that declaring an intention to contest does not authorize aspirants to begin campaigning in their constituencies. The party's directive suspending campaign activities by prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents, and supporters remains in effect.

The declaration-of-intent process is described as a new initiative in Ghana's political landscape, with the NPP aiming to lead the way in organizing its internal electoral processes. Additionally, the party plans to conduct a zoning exercise from November 1 to December 4, 2026, as part of preparations for the next phase. Training and capacity-building workshops will be held for different zones in December.

The declaration process will precede the formal nomination and vetting stages of the NPP's parliamentary primaries, determining the party's candidates for the 2028 general elections. Both sitting MPs and prospective challengers will undergo eligibility checks before advancing to subsequent stages.
