Kumasi:A lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Cosmos Asante, also known as Yaw Ampong, has reportedly been detained by the Ghana Police Service.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Asante is alleged to have posed as the Adumasahene and Mawerehene of Juaben, which is in violation of Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759). His arrest reportedly took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, on the KNUST campus.
Dr. Asante is currently in police custody. Social media accounts indicate that some community members have recognized him as a chief, although reports suggest that the necessary customary rites and procedures for a formal installation have not been carried out.
The police have not yet released an official statement providing details about the arrest or the charges against Dr. Asante.
