Kumasi:Residents of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, are urging the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to implement a power rationing timetable due to frequent and erratic power outages affecting their daily lives and livelihoods.
According to Ghana Web, the residents, especially business owners, have expressed that the unpredictable electricity cuts are severely disrupting their operations. They believe that having a scheduled timetable would allow them to better plan and mitigate the impact of these outages.
Many residents have voiced their concerns, noting that power can be cut off and restored multiple times a day without any prior notice. This has made living conditions in Kumasi increasingly challenging, affecting not only businesses but also education, as children are unable to study at home during the evenings.
Safety concerns are also being raised, with residents warning about the potential for fire outbreaks due to the repeated loss and restoration of electricity. Additionally, some residents allege that criminals are exploiting the outages to conduct nighttime robberies.
The residents are calling on ECG to address these challenges, provide more reliable power supply, and communicate openly about any ongoing issues impacting electricity availability in the city.
