Accra:Greater Accra Regional Secretary hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ebenezer Arkutu, has announced an ambitious six-point development agenda aimed at overhauling the party's regional administration, fortifying grassroots structures, and enhancing the welfare of members across the region's 34 constituencies.
According to Ghana Web, the proposed manifesto includes initiatives to establish permanent party offices, create a regional health and medical aid fund, provide educational support, develop revenue-generating businesses, offer free legal assistance to eligible members, and introduce a formal complaints and feedback system.
Arkutu, who previously served as the Ayawaso Central Constituency Chairman, aims to elevate Greater Accra into the NDC's most influential regional bloc by adopting corporate-style administration, implementing institutional reforms, and launching sustainable programs that promote collective growth and development. His vision is driven by a commitment to build an NDC that effectively meets the needs and aspirations of its members.
A key element of Arkutu's agenda is the establishment of permanent offices for regional and constituency structures, addressing the current reliance on rented or temporary spaces. He plans to secure land and initiate construction of a permanent Regional Secretariat within 18 months if elected. Additionally, a Constituency Infrastructure Fund, supported by stakeholder fundraising and diaspora partnerships, would assist the 34 constituencies in acquiring permanent offices.
The manifesto also outlines a Regional Health and Medical Aid Fund to aid party members needing critical healthcare. This initiative would be funded by contributions from elected officials and voluntary member donations, along with an annual fundraising gala. Managed by an independent board, the fund aims for transparent and fair distribution of assistance.
Arkutu's educational proposals include a Scholarship Placement Desk and support systems to help members access local and international scholarships, navigate school placements, and gain tertiary admissions. These efforts are designed to make educational assistance more organized and predictable.
To generate sustainable revenue, Arkutu proposes establishing commercial ventures like the NDC Logistics and Printing Press and agricultural enterprises. Profits from these would support microcredit schemes for party members and reduce reliance on fundraising.
A Regional Legal Aid Unit is also proposed to provide free legal services to members, supported by a Legal Defence Fund financed through the commercial ventures.
To improve communication, Arkutu suggests a Regional Complaints and Feedback Desk with multiple channels for members to voice concerns and offer suggestions. He emphasizes that effective feedback systems are crucial for building trust between party executives and members.
In his manifesto, Arkutu calls for unity and cooperation among party members to realize these reforms, aiming to build a robust and self-sustaining regional organization that strengthens the NDC's grassroots and electoral prospects.
