Nkwanta:Voting in the Nkwanta South Constituency elections for the Women Organiser position was suspended following concerns about alterations in the ballot paper arrangement and the omission of the incumbent's name from the voters' register.
According to Ghana News Agency, the incident raised suspicions among supporters of the incumbent, who claimed these changes might be a deliberate attempt to undermine her re-election bid. Madam Celestin Abasa, who is the incumbent, indicated that she was originally listed as number two on the ballot paper, but her position was later changed to number one, prompting questions about the integrity of the process.
Madam Abasa's opponent in the election was Madam Mary Malu. The omission of Madam Abasa's name from the voters' register further complicated the voting process, raising additional concerns among her supporters.
Mr. Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, the Elections Director, urged delegates and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the necessary corrections would be implemented to address the issues. He stated that voting for other positions was continuing while efforts were underway to resolve the discrepancies related to the Women Organiser position.
The suspension will persist until these issues are resolved, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. This incident underscores the importance of accuracy in electoral materials and the need for proper verification of the voters' register.
