Accra:Stephen Atubiga, founder and leader of the National Liberation Congress (NLC), has publicly addressed his ongoing health issues, attributing them to what he calls political neglect by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their electoral win in 2012. Atubiga expressed his concerns in a Facebook post, appealing to President John Dramani Mahama regarding his health struggles and recounting years of disappointment and emotional distress.
According to Ghana Web, Atubiga's statements come shortly after the reported death of actor and NDC member Kwame Dzokoto, who collapsed during a live radio discussion and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Atubiga suggests that Dzokoto's death is a result of similar neglect by the NDC post-election victory, emphasizing the serious consequences for party members who feel abandoned.
Atubiga has shared his belief that political betrayal and neglect can lead to significant personal difficulties, particularly when individuals are unable to openly discuss their experiences. He also disclosed his attempts to contact President Mahama about his health concerns, although he remains uncertain whether his message was received. Despite this uncertainty, Atubiga continues to hope for a personal meeting with the President.
Atubiga's remarks have reignited discussions about the treatment of political activists following elections, highlighting his personal assertions about the neglect faced by some NDC members. However, no independent evidence has been presented to confirm that neglect contributed to Dzokoto's death.
