Manchester:Manchester City Head coach Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that the injury to Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo is a significant setback for the team. Semenyo is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks due to a knee injury sustained during Manchester City's 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
According to Ghana Web, Semenyo, who came on as a substitute in the 77th minute of the game, has been a key player since the start of the 2026/27 season, contributing two goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions.
As Manchester City prepares for their Champions League match against AEK Athens, Maresca expressed his disappointment over Semenyo's absence but emphasized the need to find alternative attacking solutions. Semenyo was seen as a potential striker option to give Erling Haaland a rest, but Maresca noted that the team has other players who can step up.
"In terms of Erling, we said we can use Antoine as a nine, but we have different players that we are going to try to find a new solution," Maresca stated. "At the moment it's Erling. Why do we need to think about a different nine when Erling is there? If something happens and we need a different plan or different nine, we will see."
