Ghana Minister Urges Mining Reforms to Benefit Citizens

Accra:The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has emphasized the importance of ensuring that mining operations in Ghana benefit citizens and not just investors. He highlighted the need for job creation, support for local businesses, and overall improvement in the lives of Ghanaians as the country undergoes reforms in its mineral sector.

According to Ghana Web, the ongoing reforms aim to enhance the management of Ghana's mineral resources while maintaining positive relations with investors. Buah assured that the government would uphold lawful agreements and engage in open dialogue with industry players as changes in mineral governance are introduced. He stressed the importance of clear regulations and a predictable business environment for investors to make long-term decisions.

The minister also indicated that while it is essential for mining projects to remain commercially viable and offer reasonable returns for investors, the success of the industry should also be measured by its contributions to job creation, skills development, local enterprise, and environmental protection. He called on investors to integrate their operations into Ghana's broader development efforts, fostering partnerships that benefit both businesses and local communities.
