Accra:The Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association, Ghana (AMLAG), organized a symposium emphasizing the need for lawyers globally to ensure international law serves as a tool for protecting humanity. The event, themed "International Law on Trial Justice in a Divided World," featured key speakers such as Professor Kofi Abotsi and Mr. Kwesi Pratt.
According to Ghana News Agency, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Patron of AMLAG and Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, highlighted the unique role of the legal profession in advocating for justice. He urged lawyers to act as guardians of justice and to ensure the law shields the vulnerable rather than just serving the powerful.
Maulvi Bin Salih stressed that true global stability is rooted in justice, warning against the dangers of injustice, humiliation, and oppression. He advocated for international relations to be based on dignity and fairness for all nations, urging a shift from power contests to equitable management of global resources.
Professor Abotsi emphasized that international law should underpin international justice, asserting that respect for the rule of law is crucial to enforce legal norms and establish a future for international justice. Meanwhile, Mr. Pratt remarked on the symposium's timely theme, critiquing the double standards in international law's application by powerful nations.
Dr. Navy Capt (GN) Rtd Kamal Deen Ali, President of AMLAG, highlighted the symposium's significance amid global geopolitical conflicts. He noted AMLAG's commitment to justice and ethical standards, including contributions to the Legal Aid Scheme and the Justice for All Programme, which recently facilitated the release of inmates jailed for minor offenses.
