Dr Okoe Boye Calls for Apology in Ghana Jollof Case

Accra:New Patriotic Party Greater Accra Regional Chairman Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has urged authorities to apologize to nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who was arrested and detained in connection with the Ghana Jollof case, citing concerns about individual freedoms.

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Okoe Boye expressed his views during an appearance on Channel One TV's The Big Issue. He questioned the motives behind Baffoe’s detention and the decision to grant her bail, suggesting that some officials may have been more interested in asserting power than addressing a genuine security concern.

Baffoe, a nurse based in Techiman, was granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court on October 5, after her initial bail application was denied by the High Court due to concerns about interfering with ongoing investigations involving cyber-related evidence. Her bail was set at GHS100,000, with conditions to report to the police every two weeks. The case is adjourned to February 17, 2027.

Dr. Okoe Boye criticized the delay in hearing the case until February, questioning the rationale behind allowing someone alleged to pose a threat to remain free until then. He emphasized the importance of protecting individual liberties regardless of political affiliation and called for an apology to Baffoe from those involved in her detention.
