NPP Elects Kojo Bamba as First Vice Chairman Amid Security Concerns

Kumasi:Political scientist Dr. Kwame Asah Asante from the University of Ghana has analyzed the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) decision to elect Kojo Bamba as First Vice Chairman, interpreting it as a strategic move to safeguard the party's ballots during elections.

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Asah Asante highlighted that while security concerns were paramount for NPP delegates, other factors like the economy and unemployment would also significantly influence the party's performance in the 2028 general election.

Kojo Bamba, officially known as Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, secured the First Vice Chairman position at the party’s National Delegates Conference held in Kumasi on October 3, 2026. He garnered 3,116 votes, outperforming 12 other candidates. His campaign emphasized the importance of protecting party members and ballots at polling stations and collation centers.

Bamba's election has been notable partly due to his previous leadership role with Delta Force, a pro-NPP vigilante group. The group gained notoriety in 2017 when its members forcibly removed a regional security coordinator from his office at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, an incident that led to arrests and subsequent legal proceedings.
