Keta NPP Demands Apology from NDC Official Over Controversial Remarks

Keta:The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Keta Constituency has called for an unqualified apology from Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, the Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for remarks he made during the commissioning of a school block at Atsiavi-Atsime.

According to Ghana News Agency, the NPP criticized Mr. Deynu's comments, in which he urged the people of Atsiavi to revere the NDC akin to a divine entity due to the classroom project, among other developments in the area.

NPP's Constituency Deputy Secretary, Mr. Bernard Sukah, expressed in an interview that these remarks were disrespectful to the residents of Atsiavi. He insisted that Mr. Deynu should apologize urgently, as his statement seemed to compel the community to support a political party against their will.

Mr. Sukah argued that it was inappropriate for the community to be asked to show such devotion to a political party for a government responsibility like a three-unit classroom block. He emphasized that the people of Atsiavi deserved more substantial infrastructure improvements and should not be forced to show allegiance to a political party for a few projects.

During the ceremony, Mr. Deynu had also encouraged residents to support the NDC, likening the party to a personal savior and God, as it was actively addressing the nation's challenges. The classroom facility was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament for Keta, Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, and other local officials, aimed at enhancing educational conditions in the community.

The NPP did not specify what actions might be taken if no apology is forthcoming and whether the demand for an apology had been formally communicated to the NDC's constituency leadership.
