Accra:The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UG) at the University of Ghana has announced plans to cease teaching and related services starting Monday, October 19, 2026, if the government does not fulfill its obligation to pay the 2026 Book and Research Allowance.
According to Ghana Web, this industrial action is in response to ongoing delays in the payment of the allowance, which is stipulated by a Memorandum of Agreement signed with the government in 2020. The agreement mandates that the allowance be disbursed by the end of August each year.
UTAG-UG has set a deadline for the government to resolve the issue by Friday, October 16, 2026. Failure to do so will result in the withdrawal of services starting the following Monday, as detailed in their notice to the National Labour Commission.
