Teacher Strikes Impacting National Workforce Efficiency, Warns Retired Pastor

Adaklu Kodzobi:Reverend Samuel Amegboe, a retired pastor from the Assemblies of God Church, has expressed concerns that ongoing strikes by teachers at all educational levels in the country could lead to inefficient manpower development.

According to Ghana News Agency, Reverend Amegboe highlighted that the loss of instructional hours, currently totaling two weeks due to the strike, poses significant implications for the nation's future workforce. He made these remarks during an interview in response to the nationwide strike by the three Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions.

The industrial action, initiated on September 25 by the Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, and Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association, has been a growing concern for the government, parents, and students alike. Reverend Amegboe emphasized that while teachers and the government are at an impasse, parents and students are the immediate victims, with the country ultimately bearing the brunt of the consequences.

Reverend Amegboe urged teachers to return to their duties for the sake of national interest, while encouraging the government to address their grievances promptly. He also expressed confidence that the government would fulfill its agreements with teachers, despite any delays.

He criticized the government's tendency to neglect agreements with workers until strikes occur, deeming this practice unacceptable. Reverend Amegboe also encouraged students to use the strike period productively by studying and visiting libraries rather than wasting time.
