President Mahama Inaugurates Health Facilities in Ahafo Region

Ahyiaem:President John Dramani Mahama, during the first day of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour in the Ahafo Region, inaugurated two newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in the farming communities of Ahyiaem and Asuatrekrom, located within the Tano North Municipality.

According to Ghana News Agency, these CHPS compounds are primary healthcare facilities aimed at delivering essential medical and public health services directly to rural and underserved communities in Ghana. President Mahama emphasized that the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), distributed by the government to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), is intended to support infrastructure development programs.

The President criticized the previous administration's approach of allocating only a small portion of the fund to MMDAs, with the majority retained in Accra for awarding contracts. He outlined his administration’s policy of directing 80 percent of the DACF to MMDAs, empowering them to execute their infrastructure development projects, including the construction of CHPS facilities and basic schools.

President Mahama announced that as part of efforts to boost local infrastructure development, all MMDAs have been instructed to build two CHPS compounds and two basic schools each year. Additionally, he reaffirmed the commitment to the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, which ensures that healthcare services at CHPS facilities are provided free of charge to all Ghanaians.

During the commissioning ceremony at the Ahyiaem CHPS Compound, Dormaahemaa Odeneho Dr. Akosua Fima Dwaben II expressed her gratitude to the President for the development initiatives introduced in the area.
