Accra:The Council of State convened with striking pre-tertiary teacher unions in Accra on Friday, urging them to suspend their strike and return to classrooms. This meeting aimed to bolster ongoing efforts to address the unions' grievances amidst continuing negotiations with their employers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting took place after previous discussions between the unions and the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment. Council Chairperson Edward Doe Adjaho described the discussions as fruitful and expressed hope for a positive response from the unions.
Adjaho highlighted the impact of the strike, noting that children and teachers were at home, leaving classrooms empty. The Council is now anticipating feedback from the unions following their meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Greater Accra Regional Representative of the Council, praised the unions for their frank presentation of grievances during the discussions. The unions are scheduled to continue their engagements with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
