Ejisu:The Water Ladies Association, comprised of female staff from Ghana Water Limited, has inaugurated a modern urinal facility at Bamang Junior High School in the Ashanti Region's Ejisu municipality. This initiative aims to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene at the school.
According to Ghana News Agency, the project was funded through voluntary contributions from the association's members and includes the renovation of the school's existing toilets and the construction of a borehole to provide a consistent water supply.
Lady Hannan A.A Mumin, the National President of the Association, explained that the project was designed to provide girls with a comfortable place to relieve themselves, particularly during menstruation. She noted that the water project is roughly 80 percent complete, with essential components like the storage polytank and water pumps ready for installation.
She also mentioned that although there was a brief delay due to equipment availability, work is set to resume with completion expected by the end of next month. Mumin encouraged the school's management and pupils to maintain the facility's cleanliness to ensure its longevity.
The school's headmaster, Mr. Isaac Kwabena Asante, expressed gratitude, highlighting the difficulties pupils faced previously due to dangerous animals in nearby bushes. The new facility, he noted, is the first of its kind since the school was established in 1958 and is committed to its upkeep for the next 40 years.
Nana Werekua Boateng, the Queen Mother of Bamang, praised the project as a significant benefit for the town, providing a well-equipped space for students and promoting cleanliness among the girls. She called for community support for similar future projects and thanked the Water Ladies Association for this initiative.
