Ghanaian-American Professor Honored as Young Global Leader by World Economic Forum

Jakarta:Sally Afia Nuamah, a Ghanaian-American professor, has been recognized as one of the 118 Young Global Leaders for 2026 by the World Economic Forum (WEF). This accolade highlights her contributions to academia and public policy.

According to Ghana Web, Nuamah, an associate professor at Northwestern University in the USA, will take part in a three-year leadership program aimed at fostering collaboration, executive learning, and idea exchange among emerging global leaders.

Nuamah is also the founder of the TWII Foundation, which aims to empower girls in Ghana to be the first in their families to attend college. Her achievements this year also include being named a resident of the Rockefeller Foundation's 2026 Bellagio Center Residency in Italy.

The residency will provide her with a 26-day period to develop a research project focused on African cultural production, sovereignty, and partisanship, alongside scholars and professionals worldwide.

Her academic work primarily explores the intersections of race, gender, and public policy, with a focus on education policy and political participation in the USA, Ghana, and South Africa. Nuamah completed her doctorate at Northwestern University in 2016 and has previously held positions at Duke University and Princeton University.

The WEF's Young Global Leaders program, established in 2004, is designed to support emerging leaders through executive education, peer exchange, and cross-sector collaboration.
