Sanaa:Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that significant progress has been made on some of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, with contractors currently active on ten sites.
According to Ghana Web, Akandoh stated in an interview with JoyNews on October 7, 2026, that the projects are at various stages of completion, with about five showing notable advancement. He emphasized that the government's aim for the year was to secure funding to enable contractors to return to the sites, rather than completing the projects within 2026.
Akandoh assured that the projects are included in the 2026 budget. He explained that the Health Ministry is unable to proceed with contracts without commitment authorization, which requires confirmation from the Finance Ministry regarding the availability of funds. The Health Minister highlighted the necessity of the Finance Minister's involvement to ensure funding before contracts are signed.
Agenda 111 was launched by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address hospital coverage gaps nationwide. The program aims to build 101 district hospitals, seven regional hospitals, and two psychiatric hospitals, totaling 111 facilities. It is designed to improve healthcare access in underserved districts and strengthen the country's health infrastructure.
