Sanaa:The Special Assistant to Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Wonder Mandel, has refuted allegations made by the Minority in Parliament linking his boss to the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal.
According to Ghana Web, the Minority in Parliament, led by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss both Kofi Adams and Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, due to their alleged involvement in the scandal. The Minority argues that Yaw Ampofo Ankrah's removal as Director-General of the National Sports Authority is insufficient and demands further action.
Wonder Mandel, responding to these claims, described them as 'baseless and cacophonous noise,' asserting that the allegations have no legal grounding. He accused Vincent Assafuah of attempting to tarnish the minister's reputation, highlighting that the statement from the Minority did not provide any evidence of wrongdoing by Kofi Adams.
Mandel emphasized that the ministry intends to thoroughly verify the allegations and respond with the appropriate information. He insisted that there is no justification for the dismissal of Kofi Adams, and the ministry is committed to ensuring that the facts are communicated accurately to the public.
In the meantime, police investigations are ongoing to determine the culpability of any parties involved in the alleged visa scandal.
