Accra:Ghana's Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the country has recorded around 450 suspected yellow fever cases from June to September 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the Upper West Region reported 74 of these suspected cases, with three of them confirmed. During a media briefing, the Minister urged caution in reporting as authorities work to verify suspected cases.
Akandoh explained that Ghana's testing capacity is limited, necessitating the sending of some samples to Senegal for confirmation. He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between suspected and confirmed cases, particularly concerning fatalities.
To address the situation, a National Rapid Response Team has been deployed to the northern areas, including the Upper West Region. Health authorities are also managing isolation facilities for suspected cases.
The Minister assured that the situation is under control and urged journalists to rely on official information sources. He did not provide details on any deaths related to the suspected cases, pending confirmation from health professionals.
The Ministry of Health is actively monitoring the situation and plans a detailed briefing to inform the public further.
