Accra: Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has assured members of the Technical University Teachers' Association of Ghana (TUTAG) that their outstanding 2025/2026 Book and Research Allowance will be paid by the end of September 2026. The assurance follows concerns from TUTAG about delays in the payment, with the association threatening industrial action if the government failed to resolve the matter.
According to Ghana Web, Iddrisu, speaking to the media on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, stated that steps had been taken to process the payment, with details of about 8,000 beneficiaries already forwarded to the Controller and Accountant-General's Department. He explained that members whose information has been captured could receive the allowance alongside their September salaries.
The Minister explained, "We directed GTEC to provide data to the Controller and Accountant-General, and I am happy to note that some of you will receive your Book and Research Allowance in your September salary. Those of you who have had your data captured will receive it." He further mentioned, "We are committed to honouring all, and as of the close of work yesterday, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, I spoke to the Controller and Accountant-General, and he said he has entered data for up to 8,000 persons."
Iddrisu's comments are expected to ease concerns among TUTAG members who have been waiting for the allowance and had warned of possible industrial action over the delay. The payment forms part of the government's obligations to teachers in the technical university system, with the Education Ministry working with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Controller and Accountant-General's Department to complete the process.
The Minister emphasized that the government remains committed to ensuring that all eligible members receive the outstanding allowance, although payments may be made in batches depending on the status of beneficiaries' data. The latest assurance means TUTAG members whose details have already been processed could begin receiving the money with their September pay, while efforts continue to capture and process the remaining beneficiaries.
