Shama: The Shama District Assembly has successfully completed the construction of two new school blocks aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of education in the region, aligning with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG 4).
According to Ghana News Agency, SDG 4 focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities for everyone by the year 2030. Madam Emelia Arthur, the Member of Parliament for the area, inaugurated the new schools and officially handed them over to the District Director of Education, Mr. Raphael Taylor. During the event, she emphasized the importance of combining home training with academic knowledge to develop well-rounded individuals who can positively impact society.
Madam Arthur highlighted the crucial role of infrastructure in delivering effective education, expressing her commitment to collaborating with the Assembly to provide facilities that ensure access and a conducive learning environment. She also mentioned that scholarships had been awarded to 502 students and that nine additional school projects are currently underway. Furthermore, the MP noted the ongoing completion of the Shama Senior High School dormitory block.
She called upon teachers and stakeholders to strive towards producing quality human resources for both the district and the nation. Drawing from personal experience, she urged women to support their spouses in raising children, sharing how her own parents made sacrifices for her education.
Mr. Raphael Taylor, the District Director of Education, reiterated the necessity of quality teaching and learning facilities to nurture children's minds and hands. He expressed gratitude for the support aimed at improving educational outcomes in the district.
Mr. Paul Otis Dentu, the District Chief Executive, assured the community that every campaign promise would be systematically fulfilled, encouraging them to maintain their trust in the Assembly. Meanwhile, Nana Kofi Bekoe III, Chief of Anto, expressed satisfaction with the project and requested additional support for access roads, textbooks, and other educational supplies.
The Anlo Beach community received a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities, while Anto was provided with a six-unit classroom block, also equipped with ancillary facilities.
