NALAG Donates Thousands of Exercise Books to Bono Region School Children

Accra: The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has distributed 3,800 exercise books to basic school children in the Bono Region as the 2026/2027 academic year commences. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families and foster effective teaching and learning. According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Patient Asare, the Bono Regional Representative of NALAG, emphasized the prevalence of children attending school without essential learning materials such as exercise books, particularly in rural communities. She explained that this lack of resources negatively impacts their academic performance and remains a significant barrier to improving the quality of education. Some students, she noted, are forced to drop out because their families cannot afford these basic necessities. Madam Asare highlighted NALAG's commitment to local governance and development, with education being a pivotal aspect of community development and human resource empowerment. She stated that the distributi on of exercise books is part of NALAG's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), demonstrating the association's dedication to supporting government efforts in enhancing access to quality education. The Bono Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Addai Akwaboa, expressed gratitude to NALAG for the timely provision of the books, noting that access to basic learning materials is a significant challenge for many children in rural areas. He urged Municipal and District Assemblies to work with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure fair distribution of the books to deserving students. Mr. Akwaboa also called on organizations and individuals to support educational growth in rural communities. Additionally, Mr. Gabriel Antwi, the Bono Regional Director of Education, lauded NALAG's initiative and expressed hope for its continuation to promote quality education in the region. He remarked that the exercise books would serve as a motivation for students to remain in school and excel academically.
