Kintampo: Stray cattle have transformed the Kintampo Municipal Assembly (M/A) Basic School compound into a kraal, disrupting teaching and learning activities at the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic year. The presence of the animals has led to an interference in the daily educational operations at the school.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. D. T. Francis, Headmaster of the school, highlighted the situation as concerning, noting that pupils are required to clean cow dung from the school compound each morning before classes can commence. In an interview at Kintampo, Mr. Francis shared that cattle herders have been using the school compound as a gathering site for their animals every evening, effectively converting the educational area into a livestock holding ground.
Despite multiple efforts by school authorities to engage in dialogue with the herders, the issue remains unresolved. Mr. Francis pointed out that during rainy weather, the animals seek refuge alongside the pupils, creating an unhealthy and unsuitable environment for educational activities.
The issue has been reported to the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly and the Kintampo North Municipal Directorate of Education, but no actions have been taken to address the problem yet. Mr. Francis appealed to relevant authorities and stakeholders to intervene and prevent the animals from entering the school compound, emphasizing that such measures would enhance sanitation and foster a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning.
