Accra: Daffiama-Bussie-Issa The government has announced a 20% incentive on the basic salaries of health workers who accept postings to deprived and underserved communities across Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama stated that the initiative aims to encourage more health professionals to work in communities where access to healthcare remains limited.
According to Ghana Web, President Mahama made the announcement during a Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) community engagement in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District in the Upper West Region, as shared in a post by the Ministry of Health on Facebook. The President mentioned that the incentive is part of broader measures to address the unequal distribution of health professionals across the country. He urged residents in these communities to support and appreciate health workers, highlighting their essential role in bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
In addition to the salary incentive, President Mahama emphasized that the government is working to improve infrastructure in deprived districts, including roads, water, electricity, and other basic amenities, to make these areas more attractive and comfortable for health professionals.
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced the procurement of 5,000 healthcare bags and 7,000 motorcycles and tricycles for distribution to Free Primary Healthcare facilities nationwide. These efforts aim to complement existing resources and enable health workers to conduct more community and household visits under the FPHC program.
Furthermore, the Fian Health Centre has recently received essential medical equipment, including delivery beds, cardiac machines, phototherapy machines, and healthcare bags, to support Free Primary Healthcare services in the region.
