Accra: Women have been urged to embrace leadership, confidence, and responsibility to become active drivers of development and positive change in their communities and Ghana. The call was made at the 2026 Asogli Women's Day celebration held on Thursday, September 10, as part of activities marking the Asogli Te Z, bringing together women and men from across the region for empowerment, education, and leadership.
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, urged women not to wait for change but to take the initiative and become catalysts for transformation in society. 'Do not wait for change; be the initiators of change,' Togbe Afede said, urging women to embrace responsibility, pursue leadership opportunities, and take on challenging roles.
Ambassador Harriet Sena Siaw-Boateng, in charge of Belgium and Ghana's Permanent Representative to The European Union, who addressed the gathering, encouraged women to build confidence and actively participate in leadership and community and national development. She said women had an important role to play in shaping communities and influencing decisions that affected their families, institutions, and the wider society.
Participants also benefited from an educational session on cervical cancer, focusing on awareness, prevention, and early detection, as part of efforts to promote women's health and encourage timely medical attention. The celebration also featured practical education from the Bank of Ghana on how to identify and handle counterfeit Ghanaian banknotes, reinforcing the importance of vigilance and financial awareness, while highlighting the vital role of women in advancing resilient and prosperous communities.
