Anyanam: The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has issued a directive to the management of Battor Catholic Hospital Mortuary Annex, located in Anyanam, to provide an account of the missing body of 53-year-old Madam Georgina Tsiakie Agbasi within a 14-day period. This action follows an agency investigation into the disappearance of the deceased's body from the facility.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Phillip Sarpong, Deputy Registrar of MoFFA, revealed that preliminary investigations had uncovered process gaps at the mortuary. Speaking with the Ghana News Agency in Anyanam, Dr. Sarpong mentioned that the agency had initiated discussions with the facility's management to determine the fate of the body, and management had assured that the body would be found. He urged the bereaved family to remain patient as efforts to locate their relative's remains continued.
Reverend Ebenezer Ogbe, a family head, expressed concerns about the lack of direct engagement from MoFFA, despite their presence during the agency's visit to the facility. Rev. Ogbe stated that the family learned of the 14-day ultimatum through journalists, not directly from the agency. He highlighted the emotional toll the incident had taken on the family, particularly affecting the deceased's children and husband. Rev. Ogbe noted that the husband's health had declined due to the stress, affecting his ability to eat and drink.
When asked about immediate burial plans should the body be located, Rev. Ogbe indicated that the decision would depend on the condition of the remains. The family remains anxious, awaiting the outcome of ongoing efforts to find the deceased's body.
