Accra: Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has emphasized the need for strategic development of Ghana's transport infrastructure around regional economic corridors to fully leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbe Hodo stated that while AfCFTA opens significant opportunities for trade and economic integration, effective transport and logistics systems are crucial for moving goods across borders, aligning with Ghana's ambition to be a regional gateway and logistics hub. He highlighted the necessity for integration of ports, roads, railways, airports, and logistics infrastructure.
Speaking at the 2026 Transport Sector Review Conference in Ho, Togbe Hodo stressed the importance of aligning transport planning with regional trade and economic development. He called on the Government and transport sector stakeholders to view communities as active partners in infrastructure development rather than mere locations for projects.
The traditional leader pointed out the vital role traditional authorities could play in facilitating land access, resolving grievances, protecting road reservations, and enhancing community engagement during infrastructure projects. He emphasized that successful development requires collaboration among Government, traditional authorities, contractors, and communities.
Togbe Hodo concluded by stating that cooperative efforts, accountability, and shared responsibility are essential for ensuring infrastructure projects provide lasting benefits to the economy and the people.
