Bechem: Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has announced a collaboration between the Assembly and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to establish Solar Testing and Training Centers in five communities within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative aligns with the implementation of Ghana's Solar Energy Master Plan. The establishment of the centers aims to connect selected public facilities and institutions to solar energy, thereby reducing their reliance on the national electricity grid. Mr Frimpong highlighted that major health facilities, agricultural service centres, and bus terminals would be equipped with solar energy systems, addressing power challenges in the area.
Additionally, Mr Frimpong revealed that the assembly had acquired 220 solar-powered street lights, which would be installed in Bechem, the municipal capital, to enhance lighting and security.
In a separate interview, Mr Charles Kwasi Asiedu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South Constituency, mentioned that efforts are underway to connect 22 deprived communities in the municipality to the national electricity grid. He stated that the project is part of the government's cost-sharing programme, with electricity poles and cables already installed in the beneficiary communities, and transformers set to be installed soon.
