Accra: The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has elevated the Ho Technical University (HTU) Clinic to the status of a Primary Hospital after a comprehensive inspection of the facility. This notable development was unveiled by Mr. Divine Kporha, the Volta Regional Director of HeFRA, during a conversation with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kporha emphasized that the transition from a Sick Bay to a Primary Hospital signifies a pivotal moment in the healthcare journey of the University. The facility has evolved significantly over time, initially serving as a Sick Bay, but now offering a broad range of essential healthcare services to both the University community and the public at large.
Mr. Kporha highlighted that the facility's growth is mirrored by its increased capacity to deliver essential healthcare services. The upward trend in utilization signifies rising public confidence, necessitating expanded capacities to address the growing healthcare needs of both the University community and local residents.
In 2025, the facility registered a total of 24,846 Out-Patient Department (OPD) visits, 1,500 attendances for Antenatal Care (ANC), 154 deliveries, and 1,633 visits to the Child Welfare Clinic. A notable achievement in 2026 was the safe delivery of triplets, a first in the facility's history, showcasing the dedication and competence of the clinical team.
Mr. Kporha explained that HeFRA's role extends beyond mere regulation, as the agency actively supports healthcare facilities in meeting the standards necessary for providing safe and quality healthcare services. He extended his congratulations to Prof. Ben Honyenuga, Vice-Chancellor of HTU, alongside the University Council, Management, Dr. Redeemer Fiebor, the Medical Director of the facility, and the entire healthcare team for achieving this milestone.
Dr. Fiebor, who guided HeFRA officials during their inspection, expressed his gratitude toward the regulatory agency for its comprehensive assessment and support in the clinic's development and subsequent upgrade. He noted that the upgrade is a critical step in the facility's growth, enhancing its ability to meet the healthcare needs of the University and surrounding communities.
