Accra: Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed disappointment over what she describes as the lack of recognition being given to the life and legacy of the late veteran actress Grace Nortey following her passing. Speaking on United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah said although Grace Nortey's death is heartbreaking for her family, it should also be treated as 'a celebration of life' because of her immense contribution to Ghana's creative arts industry.
According to Ghana Web, Yaa Yeboah highlighted the significant role Grace Nortey played in empowering women through radio before making a lasting impact in Ghana's movie industry. She noted the late actress's ability to make her performances feel authentic and lamented the lack of televised tributes or retrospectives celebrating Nortey's work.
MC Yaa Yeboah urged television stations to dedicate time to airing Grace Nortey's biography, movies, and other works as a way of honoring her legacy. She expressed concern that the absence of such tributes could discourage other creatives who have devoted their lives to the industry.
Drawing a comparison with international tributes, Yeboah mentioned the extensive coverage surrounding global icons' deaths, which often highlights their achievements and preserves their legacy. She cited the example of Dolly Parton, whose passing was widely covered in the media. In contrast, she observed the limited recognition given to Grace Nortey on social media and television.
