Accra: Ghanaian musician KiDi has shared a poignant childhood memory involving his father, who once kicked him out of their family home when he was about five years old. The incident was a result of KiDi's troublesome behavior, which had become a concern for his parents.
According to Ghana Web, the award-winning singer recounted the story during an interview with Kafui Dey, shared on August 29, 2026. KiDi described himself as a particularly stubborn and energetic child, whose actions often left his parents questioning the kind of child they were raising. He recalled instances where he would damage new school shoes by playing with stones, and returning home with them ruined.
KiDi mentioned that his school uniform would often be so dirty after school that it seemed as though he had been in a fight. He explained that his repeated behavior puzzled his parents, who frequently returned home to find him in another problematic situation.
The specific incident that led to his father asking him to leave the house involved a misunderstanding at school. After school had ended, KiDi's parents were late to pick him up, leaving him waiting with his teacher. The teacher asked him to retrieve something from her table, but KiDi misunderstood and assumed she wanted him to eat the waakye on her table, which he did.
Upon returning home, his father was displeased with yet another instance of his notorious behavior. KiDi stated that his father instructed his sister to remove everything he was wearing and told him to leave the house with nothing. The young KiDi was eventually dressed only in his church shoes before being sent out. As he walked away, he broke down in tears by the roadside, prompting his father to call him back and ask if he realized he was going to miss his family.
Despite this incident, KiDi admitted that the punishment did not immediately alter his behavior, as he continued to be a notorious child.
