According to Ghana Web, one of the notable changes is the expansion of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, which will now have the authority to intervene in situations where players are wrongfully issued cards. This move is expected to mitigate the controversies surrounding refereeing decisions.
The new rules also tackle the persistent issue of delays. Players will be given limited time to leave the pitch for substitutions, and injured players will be required to be replaced quickly if their treatment takes too long. This is intended to keep the game flowing and minimize interruptions.
The Premier League hopes these changes will reduce the criticism often directed at officials by fans and pundits. The rules include new measures such as eliminating tactical timeouts, modifying the penalty for hair-pulling incidents, and enforcing stricter punishments for holding during corners.
Additionally, players treated on the pitch must now leave for one minute, goalkeepers receiving treatment will necessitate a teammate leaving the pitch for a short duration, and a five-second countdown will be implemented for throw-ins and goal kicks to prevent delays. These measures are expected to enhance game management and ensure a more seamless viewing experience for fans.
