Akatsi: The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has successfully advanced agricultural productivity by implementing poultry and fertilizer distribution programs as part of its efforts to enhance food security and improve household income.
According to Ghana News Agency, these interventions are aligned with the government's 'Feed Ghana Initiative'. At the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Second Assembly, Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akatsi South, announced the reception of 10,000 chicks under the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme, achieving a survival rate of 95.95 percent. The Assembly supported households with birds and feed, and monitoring visits confirmed the thriving conditions of the birds.
Under the Fertilizer Support Programme, Mr. Dagba disclosed that the Assembly distributed 1,500 bags of NPK and Urea fertilizers to 133 farmer groups and individuals. This agricultural drive was further bolstered by private initiatives such as BON Agro and Delmark Agro, which organized farmer symposiums to train farmers in climate-smart agriculture and modern farming techniques.
The engagements brought together farmers from Wute, Sremanu, Adzikame, and Kpodzivi, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. Mr. Dagba reiterated the Assembly's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing food production, and improving farmers' livelihoods.
