Takoradi: The Member of Parliament for the Ellembelle Constituency, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has emphasized that the future of Ghana is intrinsically linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Speaking at the opening session of a two-day Quadrennial Youth Conference organized by the NDC in Takoradi, Western Region, Buah reiterated the party's commitment to national development.
According to Ghana Web, Buah highlighted the transformative policies and programs implemented by the NDC, which have focused on improving the lives of Ghanaians. He recounted the dire economic conditions the party inherited, including significant national debt and environmental degradation. Yet, he noted the strides made in reclaiming forest reserves and stabilizing the economy. "We are finally restoring hope," he announced, citing recent infusions of capital into education and healthcare as examples of the NDC's commitment to progress.
Buah, who also serves as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, credited the NDC's prudent economic management for the country's recovery. He recalled how the administration of President John Dramani Mahama took charge amidst depleted national resources and implemented measures that have since garnered international attention, including from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The veteran MP praised the youth of the NDC, describing them as the "engine of NDC" and crucial to the party's vibrancy both in government and opposition. He drew from his own political journey, recounting the skepticism he faced when contesting against the seasoned politician Freddy Blay. His victory, likened to the biblical battle of David and Goliath, underscored the importance of hard work and determination.
Looking ahead, Buah announced a scholarship initiative aimed at empowering the NDC's youth wing. He emphasized the necessity of equipping young party members with skills and knowledge to ensure the party's future success. "The NDC's future is tied to the youth wing," he stated, highlighting the demographic shift with over 70% of Ghanaian voters under 40.
Buah reminded the youth of their pivotal role in the NDC's success, asserting, "You are the reason the NDC is in power. You are the reason President Mahama is President. In fact, you are the reason I'm a minister." His address underscored the NDC's focus on youth empowerment as a strategy for sustaining political influence and national governance.
