Accra: Ghanaian sports journalist Godfred Akoto Boafo has made fresh allegations against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the events surrounding the Black Stars' FIFA World Cup campaign. In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on July 27, 2026, Godfred Akoto Boafo alleged that the GFA was aware that Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey had been denied entry into Canada.
According to Ghana Web, Partey's visa denial was communicated to the GFA two days before Ghana's World Cup clash against Panama in Canada. Boafo explained that the GFA kept the matter under wraps and attempted to resolve it before it became public knowledge. He expressed disappointment over the situation, noting that the GFA's lack of proactivity resulted in a reactive approach that ultimately failed.
Boafo further claimed that the GFA deliberately acted surprised by Thomas Partey's visa denial to avoid backlash from Ghanaians. He criticized the decision to process Partey's visa application with the rest of the team's delegation, suggesting that it should have been handled separately. The issue arose when Partey's form did not answer a particular question affirmatively, which led to allegations of providing false information.
At the court hearing, it was revealed that Partey did not fill out his visa application form himself, although he did sign it. Boafo emphasized that this oversight highlighted the need for different handling of such forms, especially for national team players. He suggested that someone should have been responsible for recognizing the unique aspects of Partey's case to prevent the situation from escalating.
