Accra: Sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has expressed his expectation for the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to intervene and prevent the current Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, from pursuing a third term in office.
According to Ghana Web, Yeboah drew parallels between Okraku's potential prolonged tenure and that of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, whose extended stay was tarnished by corruption allegations. Yeboah highlighted concerns that Okraku might be following a similar path by seeking to amend the GFA constitution to permit a third-term candidacy, a move he considers perilous for Ghanaian football.
Yeboah pointed out that in the past, changes were made to limit GFA leadership to two terms after FIFA recognized the risks associated with longer tenures. He noted that Kurt Okraku is the first to benefit from the two-term limit, yet is seeking to extend his leadership. The journalist emphasized that Kofi Adams should not remain indifferent to this issue, despite claims that the minister is unwilling to interfere in football matters.
He further urged the sports minister to take decisive action by writing to FIFA to block Okraku's third-term bid. Yeboah asserted that allowing Okraku to continue could perpetuate existing problems within the organization, drawing on historical precedents that have damaged the integrity of football in Ghana.
