Accra: Ghana to bid for Commonwealth Games hosting after India 2030. Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed that Ghana is preparing to bid to host a future edition of the Commonwealth Games, backing a collective call by Commonwealth nations for the event to be staged in Africa after India hosts the 2030 Games.
According to Ghana Web, Adams spoke after a meeting of Commonwealth sports ministers, where he disclosed that there was a strong consensus among member nations that Africa deserves the opportunity to host the multi-sport event, given the continent's long-standing contribution to the Games.
The Minister stated that the proposal is for the Commonwealth Games to be held on African soil after the 2030 edition in India. He believes this move would mark a historic milestone for the continent. "One agreement that we all came to is to strongly recommend that, considering the fact that Africa has always been participating in the Commonwealth Games and has not had the opportunity of hosting, we think that post-India, that is after the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the hosting rights must be on African soil," Adams said.
While hosting the Games would be a significant achievement, the Minister emphasized that Ghana's immediate priority is improving its performances at upcoming international competitions. He challenged Team Ghana to deliver stronger results at the 2026 Commonwealth Youth Games in Malta, as well as the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India, saying those performances would strengthen the country's credentials as a future host.
Adams also highlighted Ghana's proud history at the Commonwealth Games, noting that the country has consistently returned home with medals from previous editions.
